Practical guide
5 minMaterials and Finishes, Explained
The right material in the right place is the difference between replacing in 2 years or in 10. Six materials, minus the unnecessary jargon.
Explore the 6 materials
Melamine & MDF
Fiber or particle boards faced with melamine resin. The standard for work surfaces: desks, tables and credenzas.
- Resists everyday scratches and stains
- Stable: doesn't warp in the regional climate
- 18–40 mm thicknesses to match structural demand
Care & cleaning
Damp cloth and neutral soap. Avoid standing water at the joints and harsh solvents.
The LuxaLine golden rule
Specify by intensity of use, not by catalogue page: high traffic → polypropylene and steel; long workdays → mesh and high-density foam; brand image → PU, glass and wood. When a piece combines all three worlds (structure, comfort, image), it always wins.

Frequently asked questions
Melamine or MDF: which is better for desks?
Melamine is the facing; the core can be MDF or particle board. For institutional desks: melamine over an 18–25 mm board with sealed edges. Premium surfaces use 40 mm.
Does polypropylene work outdoors?
Only with UV additive (like the Garbar Resol line or LuxaLine playground equipment). Untreated polypropylene fades and embrittles in the sun within 12–18 months.
How do I clean PU eco-leather without damaging it?
Damp cloth with neutral soap, dried immediately. Never alcohol, bleach or solvents: they dry out the polyurethane and crack it.
